Create a Blog or a "Blog Entry"

A blog is a collection of pages ordered by date, usually written on some specific theme. The front page of a blog shows a listing of the pages, with each page usually represented on the list by its title and a short extract from the beginning of that blog entry (the "teaser"). Common uses of the blog format are to present a personal diary or a set of news reports.

Our website system allows each registered member to have a blog here, if the administrators enable them as Blog Authors. Once a member is enabled for blogs, they can use the Blog Entry (or My Blog Entry) content type to create an entry. The result is a page that will automatically be associated with their member account, and appear on their "My Blog" page. The total set of the website's blogger's entries are collected to create the Our Blogs page.

New blog entries can be created from the "Create content" page, or by using a link at the top of your blog's front page after you've created at least one entry.

One important difference between creating a Blog Entry and an ordinary page is that by default an ordinary page cannot have comments added to it. However, unless you specifically change the Comment Setting to "disabled" when you create a particular Blog Entry, people will be able to add comments to that entry. Depending on the settings for the website, either members only else the general public may be able to add comments.

To create a blog entry:

  1. Make sure you're logged in.
  2. Click on "Create content" in the left-sidebar Navigation menu.
  3. Click on "My blog entry" to select that content type.
  4. On the blog entry edit form that's now displayed:
    1. Enter the "Title" of the blog entry.
    2. Select the "Category"  that best describes the topic. You can select more than one, but choosing one is preferrable.
    3. Choose the "Region" that best characterizes your blog entry.
    4. In the "Body" section, type the contents of your posting. Use the "Teaser" divider to indicate the break between the teaser text and the remainder of the posting. See the page Using the Rich Text Editor if you're unfamiliar with the editor's buttons.
    5. Click on "Preview" at the bottom of the page to see how the text will look when it's published. The text is not saved, however, until you click on the "Save" button. If you want to abandon the blog entry without saving it, just click on any other page link (e.g. "Home").
  5. When you're ready to publish the blog entry, click on "Save" at the bottom of the page.

You can ignore the Access and other items in the form, if shown.
