Create a "Link" Item

Registered members who are designated as a Link Author can use the Create content page to create a new Link item. Link items are distinguished from other content types by the requirement for a URL address to be given. In addition, Link items provide a short description of the page or site to which the link leads.

When people go to this website's Links page, they're presented with a list of links sections, which have been established by the site administrators. Selecting a particular section of links then leads to a list of Link items sorted alphabetically by title, along with short descriptions.

To create a new Link item for the links listing:

  1. Log in.
  2. Select "Create content" in the left-hand sidebar Navigation menu.
  3. Click on "Link" in the list of content types.
  4. Fill out the form:
    1. Title - The name of site or page the link will go to.
    2. Category - Select which category tag best applies (e.g. "Universal Worship"). You can select more than one tag, but selecting one is preferable.
    3. Region - Select which region/location tag best applies (e.g. "Toronto").
    4. Links - Select which links section tag best applies (e.g. "Other Inyati Orders").
    5. Short description - Enter a sentence or two describing the page or site to which the link leads.
  5. Click on the "Save" button at the bottom of the page.

You can ignore the "Access" and "Meta tags" sections of the form even if they're displayed, since neither is really used for links.

As you can see, half of the work comes from deciding which tags fit the link best (Category, Region, Links). The tags have been chosen to make it easy for people to find what they want, to help ensure that the links stay as relevant to Sufi Order activities as possible, and also to allow some advanced search abilities at some point in the future (i.e. show me only links that match this, this, and this tag). If you think we need to modify the set of tags, please let the site administrators know.

If you later need to edit a link, you can find the link item's page by going to the special administrative list of links and clicking on the title of the link. Then click on the "Edit" tab at the top of the link's display, and you'll be back at the same form you used earlier to create the link. Edit the information and click "Save" at the bottom. Note that unless you are a Links Administrator (as well as a Links Author) you can only edit links that you have created yourself. For other links, the "Edit" tab won't be displayed.
