reaping the harvestZira'at was the last of the five concentrations inspired and created by Hazrat Inayat Khan. It utilizes a ceremony based on the symbology of farming, to represent the unity between the inner work of spiritual realization and stewardship and reverence for life. Its teachings pertain to the purification and training of the mind, the balance of the two aspects of breath, jelal (masculine) and jemal (feminine) and the honoring of the elements.

photo of Himayat InayatiWhat do the great Sufi mystics of the 12th century have to teach us about the environmental crisis of our times? How do their brilliant insights complement the novel contemporary ideas of deep ecology and Father Thomas Berry’s theological cosmology? Himayat Inayati, a senior Sufi Order teacher, will weave these two strands together through discourse and practice, in pursuit of a sacred ecology, a way to address one of the most urgent needs of our time.

Pir Zia photoThe goal of the journeyer is the Beloved—The goal of the Beloved is the journey.

The world is a caravanserai, and we are only passing through. But we have come here on important business; indeed, our commission comes from the Eternal. We are asked to be the sensory organs of the love that created the Universe. In this retreat, through contemplation, meditation, prayer, and remembrance, we will cultivate awareness of the unfolding purpose that links the life we knew before birth, the life we live today, and the life that lies beyond.
